STAAR Interim Assessments
What Are the STAAR Interim Assessments?
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Interim Assessments are optional, online assessments aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that help educators monitor student progress and predict student performance on STAAR. STAAR Interim Assessments are a snapshot of current student performance taken a few times during the year to determine mastery of grade level expectations at a specific moment in time. These assessments are available at no cost to districts and open-enrollment charter schools, and they are not tied to accountability.

Who Can Take the Assessments?
STAAR Interim Assessments are available for any Texas public school district or open-enrollment charter school and may be administered at the district's or school's discretion. No application or TEA approval is required to participate; district testing personnel just need to upload student records to the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE). If you are a teacher who would like to administer STAAR Interim Assessments, contact your campus or district testing coordinator.

What Are the Benefits of Using the Assessments?
Districts that participate in the STAAR Interim Assessments may experience the following benefits.
- Testing Opportunities for Progress Monitoring—Students have one to two opportunities to track towards mastery of the TEKS. STAAR Interim Assessments enable teachers to measure progress and identify which students are on-track towards meeting end-of-year proficiency. These assessments serve as a viable replacement to locally adopted interim assessments and are 100 percent aligned to the TEKS. STAAR Interim Assessments are administered on the same online platform as STAAR, giving students additional chances to interact with the system's functionalities.
- Timely Student Reports—After each testing opportunity, district testing coordinators can access district-, campus-, and student-level reports. Student-level information includes the test question, the student’s response to each test question, and the TEKS student expectation for each test question.
NOTE: Although authorized educators are able to view secure interim assessment questions in CRS as they are viewing student results, these secure test items should NOT be downloaded or printed.
