Revalidating a Lifetime Certificate
House Bill 72, passed by the Texas Legislature in 1984, mandated that all persons issued valid Texas teacher certifications before February 1, 1986, pass a skills assessment test. If you need to revalidate your certification, please submit a TEA Help Desk ticket.
Revalidating Using the TExES
You may revalidate using a TExES examination in specific content area. To do so:
- Create an educator account to access your TEA ID number.
- You must have a TEA ID number to register for a test.
- Register for a test on the Pearson website.
- Contact educator certification once scores are in your TEA account.
We will revalidate your certificate once we have verified your scores. Once your certificate is valid, you may also be eligible for a new certificate. To apply for the certificate, you must log into your TEAL account, click View My Educator Certification Account, verify your profile, click Applications and then Additional Certification by Examination.
Revalidating Using the THEA
The THEA program will conclude effective February 28, 2025. THEA administrations will no longer be available after that date.
You must have completed the reading and writing portion of the THEA (math section was not required).
